This year’s Home Olympics (H’Olympics) competition took the Ranch Hope team to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. Our young men competed honorably for medals in softball, basketball, volleyball and swimming, as well as track and field events.
For the first time in 18 years, Ranch Hope won the prestigious Sportsmanship Award.
In order to be considered for such an honor, a team must exhibit outstanding teamwork, dedication, respect, trustworthiness, and camaraderie. The team must win and lose with pride and dignity. Our young men represented the core of the Ranch Hope mission showing Christ-like behavior to competitors.
Team members included: Khari D., Eddie G., Jared S., Kimon D., Angel R., Mike C., Kendrick B., Vince O., David D., and Alex C. Staff members who accompanied the team were: Rodger Garrison, Reggie Redding, Ethan Dixon, and Kimon DeShields, Sr.
In addition to receiving the Sportsmanship Award, the team brought home 3 Gold, 5 Silver, and 3 Bronze Medals. First and second place honors were earned for artistic talent by Jared S. and Nick S. respectively. Emily M. received a third place award for her essay entry.
The H’Olympics is a perfect example of the great opportunities offered to residents of Ranch Hope who have a desire to change their lives for the better. We are so proud of everyone who competed in the 2009 H’Olympics. Great Job!
